Councilman Jake Myers Announces Plan to Resign from Clinton County Council
CLINTON COUNTY, Ind. – Clinton County Councilman Jake Myers announced at today’s county council meeting he plans to resign after the December 2022 council meeting due to moving outside of his district. Myers is completing his eighth year on the council and won re-election to District 2 of the County Council in the November 8 (last week) general election running unopposed as a Republican.
A Republican caucus will be held to fill the seat within 30-days of Myers’ formal announcement with the Clinton County Clerk of the Courts.
“I’ve been on the Council for eight years – been a great run,” commented Councilman Myers after the meeting. “I was really looking forward to the next four years as well.”
Asked what he most enjoyed as an accomplishment while serving on the county council Myers spoke of the implementation of a stand alone EMS service within the county and building of a new hospital.
“Hands down it was the implementation of a stand alone EMS service, being able to fund our own EMS and the acquisition of being able to build a new hospital,” noted Myers. “That’s been a huge accomplishment and really, really enjoyed being a part of that and just collectively working with other county officials has been great.”
Addressing what Myers will miss he said, “I’m really gonna miss the camaraderie with the other council members and working with the commissioners and working with all the department heads.
I ran on – in the beginning – being able to work with department heads and other elected officials. I am a municipal employee myself, so I knew the struggles that employees would go through in salaries and benefits.”
Clinton County Council President Alan Dunn said of the announcement, “I am sorry to lose Jake. It’s been eight great years… I think Jake’s had a really, really important role on the council over his two terms because he, with his role in public safety as a Frankfort police officer, he can speak that public safety language and he’s been sort of a liaison between the budget side on the council and our public safety entities and the sheriff’s office and the EMS.”
Myers noted he will continue to serve the community as a Frankfort police officer stating he has two more years until he can retire from the department.
The next County Council meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m., Tuesday, December 13 at the Clinton County Courthouse.
